Formulating Individualized Prescriptions.

What Is Compounding?

Pharmaceutical compounding is the method of preparing medications to meet each physician’s and patient’s unique needs.

The physician first prescribes the medication, then the pharmacist takes the necessary ingredients, compounds them, and dispenses the medicine to the patient in a delivery system that best fits the patient’s needs. The art of pharmaceutical compounding allows patients to receive the personalized care they deserve. How do we do this?

At The Natural Pharmacy, we start with pure Bulk Powders whenever possible. We have sources for THOUSANDS of chemicals and drugs. We may use commercially available products as our starting point if bulk powders are not obtainable. We have the facility and equipment to properly compound your order. We also have the technical training necessary to prepare your medications.

Why Compound?

Compounding has been around since the origin of pharmacy.

There are many good reasons why we still practice it today! Some patients, for example, are allergic to certain preservatives and dyes used in many prescribed drugs while others are sensitive to the standard drug strengths. Compounding allows us to eliminate offensive ingredients in the medication and to adjust the strength to meet the specific needs of our patients. All this is done through consultation with the patient and his/her physician.

Compounding also allows us to adjust the delivery system to best suit the patient’s needs. Someone who has a hard time swallowing capsules can have their medication prepared in suspension form. In the case of children, the medication might be prepared in the form of a lollipop. We can also add flavorings to make the medication more palatable.

Some of the other unique delivery systems available are suppositories, metered nasal sprays, lip balms, lozenges, topical ointments, and pre-filled straws which are very useful for travel or school applications. Should you, as a patient, require multiple medications, it may be possible to combine them into a single dosage form to decrease the number of dosages needed.

At The Natural Pharmacy, we specialize in Custom Prescription Compounding. We are committed to meeting the individualized needs of our patients.

Who Needs Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Any patient who has experienced osteoporosis, heart disease, endometriosis, PMS, perimenopausal symptoms, weight gin, low libido, fibrocystic breasts. Millions of women whoa re concerned about aging must decide whether or not to undergo synthetic hormone replacement therapy, and suffer its side effects and increased risks of cancer. As we consider the benefit to risk ratio, we must take into account new evidence and ongoing research about alternatives to traditional therapy.

Natural Hormone Replacement therapy (NHRT) means that the chemical makeup of the replacement hormone is exactly the same as what the body produces. The ideal natural substances for hormone replacement therapy are readily available. Bio-identical plant-derived estrogen and progesterone products have been safely prescribed by European physicians for over 50 years. These natural hormones are almost entirely without the side effects of the synthetic or semisynthetic HRT drugs which do not allow a person to produce the full range of other hormones which are needed for the body to function at full potential. Various dosage forms can be compounded to meet the specific therapy for each woman. There are many unique formations to meet each woman’s specific need.
